BELL RINGERS - ST. MARY’S CHURCH

The Ringers meet at St. Mary’s Bell Tower every Thursday at 7.30pm. The group maintains a band of ringers for church, public and private celebrations. Anyone over the age of 14 is eligible to join.

Meet every Wednesday evening, during term time, 6.15 p.m. to 7.45 p.m. at the Community Hall, Old School Surgery, Bolts Hill, Chartham.
Girls from the age of 7-10 follow the aims of the world-wide Guide Association in friendship and in participating in indoor and outdoor activities.
There is a small weekly membership subscription.

CANTERBURY HOSPITAL LEAGUE OF FRIENDS (CHARTHAM)

Members raise money for the Canterbury Hospitals by organising various events in Chartham and Chartham Hatch. About four meetings a year are held, usually at one of the member’s houses. Anyone interested in providing comforts for patients in hospital is welcome to join.

CHARTHAM CYCLING CLUB

The club aims to encourage local people to discover the delights of cycling in and around Chartham, to take part in rides and rallies and to support all efforts for a better deal for cyclists. Anyone with a road-worthy bicycle and/or a keen interest in cycling is welcome to join.

There are organised rides approximately once a month, children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.

CHARTHAM AND DISTRICT ANGLING SOCIETY

The aims of the Society are to promote fresh water and sea angling, (junior members are encouraged), and to retain the natural environment around the lake area. The lake is situated behind the Recreation Ground in Shalmsford Street.
Local membership is open to those residing within a four mile radius of Chartham. There is an entrance fee plus a yearly subscription and there are special terms and subscriptions for Juniors (9-16 years), Senior Citizens and Sea Fishing only members.

CHARTHAM CHAMELEONS DRAMA GROUP

Meets on the second Monday of each month for play readings and also produces occasional public performances for local audiences.

The group’s aims are to provide varied entertainment and to give members opportunities to improve their skills. There is a small subscription.

CHARTHAM ROYAL BRITISH LEGION - BRANCH AND CLUB - Bolts Hill, Chartham.

The Branch exists to bring about the unity of all ex-Service men and women and to assist them and their dependants in time of need and to promote the same sense of loyalty and comradeship that existed whilst in the Service.
The club exists to provide a venue for the social activities of the ex-Service and associated members and guests, as well as a Headquarters for the Branch.
A period of service in any of H.M. Armed Forces qualifies any man or woman for Ordinary Membership. Associate Membership is at the discretion of the Management Committee.

VOLUNTARY 'HELPING HANDS' SCHEME

There is a scheme supported by St Mary’s Parochial Church Council to help people with Transport, Shopping, Collecting Prescriptions and Hospital Visits. The organisers would also like to know of any Senior Citizens who might like a visit or an outing.

OVER 50’s CLUB

Chartham over 50s Club is open to all Chartham residents aged 50 and over. Meetings are held fortnightly on Mondays from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. at Chartham Hatch Village Hall. Transport can be arranged. New members are always welcome.

RIDING FOR THE DISABLED - Cobbs Meadow Group

There is a Riding for the Disabled Centre at Cobbs Meadow, off Candlers Way, St Augustines, Chartham. CT4 7TU. It operates Monday to Friday with adult sessions Tuesday and Thursday and children’s sessions Monday and Wednesday, groups are catered for on Friday mornings.
Helpers, preferably with some knowledge of horses, would be welcome and much appreciated.

THE CHARTHAM SOCIETY

The aim of the Society is the environmental conservation and archival preservation of Chartham and the immediate surrounding areas.

Membership is open to all residents and businesses in Chartham. Meetings for the general membership are called as and when necessary. Activities such as walks are arranged throughout the year and bi-annually a coach trip is organised to a site of historical or environmental interest. Details of these events are advertised in the local press and on the village notice boards. The Annual General Meeting is held in October/November, to which all members are invited.

The Chartham Archives is a sub- committee of The Chartham Society and maintains files on aspects of local history which may be borrowed in paper format (there is usually a waiting list) or hired as a CD Rom . It also organises bi-annual exhibitions relating to Chartham’s history. All ecclesiastical records and other official documents are held at Canterbury Cathedral Archives.
